Clase Azul Dia de Muertos Limited Edition Colores 2022 1L

In 2021, Clase Azul launched a series of tequilas and decanters dedicated to highlighting the elements that make Día de Muertos a unique celebration in the world. Clase Azul Tequila Día de Muertos Limited Edition Colores is the second installment in a series of five limited editions called Nuestros Recuerdos (“Our Memories”).

The decanter created for this edition was inspired by calaveritas de azúcar (“sugar skulls”); colorful, skull-shaped sweets traditionally prepared to celebrate Día de Muertos. The base of the decanter features an illustration of traditional Día de Muertos decorations, namely orange cempasúchil (marigold flowers), papel picado (“perforated paper,” a decorative craft made from lightweight paper) and stylized skulls.

The front of the decanter is graced by an intricate, silver-plated ornament decorated with colorful enamels inspired by the traditional decorative elements of calaveritas de azúcar. The piece was handmade by Mexican artisans and took around 12 days to make. This limited edition consists of only 6,500 decanters.

For this limited edition, Clase Azul Master Distiller, Viridiana Tinoco, orchestrated a unique aging process to create a special añejo tequila. The tequila was aged for 22 months in American whiskey casks. The tequila was finished over the course of 6 months in artisanal rum casks from the island of Martinique. The rich aromas of this rum are incorporated into the casks’ character after distillation and impart exquisite tasting notes to the tequila.
