In 2021, Clase Azul launched a series of tequilas and decanters dedicated to highlighting the elements that make Día de Muertos a unique celebration in the world, which will highlight the pillars of El Día de Muertos offerings: flavors, scents, colors, music, and memories. These will be released over the next five years with this edition being Clase Azul first installment called Sabores, in a series of five limited editions called Nuestros Recuerdos (“Our Memories”). This Clase Azul Limited Edition pays homage to El Día de Muertos’ flavors and gastronomy.
The exquisite artwork on the decanter depicts Catrinas which are elegantly dressed skeletons and are one of the main icons of this celebration. The front of the decanter is adorned with a handmade, gold-plated metal ornament of three Calaveras, traditional decorative skulls, and a Pan de Muerto which symbolize this holiday’s mystique and culinary tradition, respectively.
Clase Azul Master Distiller, Viridiana Tinoco, created a special Añejo Tequila for this limited edition inspired by the flavors of the culinary traditions of Día de Muertos. This extraordinary tequila was created by blending an añejo tequila aged 14 months in casks previously used for American whiskey with tequilas aged in First-use American oak casks having light and medium charring. The combined result of these aging methods is a wide-ranging aroma and flavor profile.
