Cabernet Sauvignon 65%, Merlot 28% and Petit Verdot 7%
Château Lagrange is a well-regarded wine estate based in the Saint-Julien appellation of the Haut-Médoc region, north of Bordeaux city on the so-called “left bank” of the Gironde estuary. The estate was classified as a third growth in the 1855 Classification of the Médoc.Historically, there is evidence that grapes were planted here in the Middle Ages but it was not until the 17th Century, with the amalgamation of two properties (the “tenement of Pellecahus” and Lagrange) that the genesis of the current property was formed under the noble title of Lagrange de Monteil.
The estate was passed between many well-known wine merchants and families throughout the 18th, 19th and 20th Centuries until the current owners, Japanese drinks giant Suntory, purchased the estate in 1983. The composition of the wines reflect the ratios of planting with some of the oldest vines dating back to the 1950s. The eponymous grand vin is a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend, aged for nearly two years in 60 percent new oak.
TASTING NOTES
Dark color with purple tint on the rim, black cherry, blackcurrant, and fresh prune. Powerful and unctuous with a lot of freshness. This vintage seems to be very approachable and well balanced. Tannins are dense and very silky. This amazing wine looks like a blend between the 2009 and 2016. 2018 is the ultimate generous wine.
