Domaine Bosquet des Papes has been in the Boiron family since 1860. Situted in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the estate spans 31 hectares. Nicolas Boiron and Claire-Jeanne take great pride in their Châteaneuf-du-Pape grand cru and have recently taken on a big investment project to modernise their techniques while respecting the winemaking tradition. Under their direction, the domain expanded to include 27 ha in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape red appellation
This bottle of the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Chante le Merle Vieilles Vignes was singing at full and amazingly youthful voice this June. Black cherry fruit dominated the nose of this big, rich, tannic beast, which still has years ahead of it. Full-bodied and velvety, with a long, concentrated finish, I could see it aging through 2030.
