Viña Ventisquero is a large Chilean producer founded in 1998 by Gonzalo Vial, owner of a large fresh food business. The Ventisquero group includes the Queulat, Clásico and Yelcho brands amoungst numerous others.
Today, the company owns more than 1500 hectares (3700 acres) of vineyards in the coastal Maipo region – the location of the first holdings and of the winery – and the Casablanca, Colchagua, Leyda and Huasco (Atacama) regions.
The Ventisquero portfolio includes a range of high-end wines, sourced from the best plots within the company’s holdings. The Tara Altacama range includes varietal Viognier, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc as well as a Pinot Noir and a Syrah sourced from two seperate vineyards in Atacama. Here, a year-round desert climate allows vignerons to control yields with drip irrigation.
Syrah Grey has a deep dark ruby color with violet hues. Intense aromas on the nose, soft notes of berries such as blueberries and blackberries, along with aromas of black pepper and also mineral notes, like graphite. Expressive mouth, good body, a structured wine that is given by a great presence of round, firm and mature tannins, that fill the mouth and leave it velvety with a pleasant fruity finish and a long persistence.
