95% Merlot, 5 % Cabernet Franc
15 months in fine-grained French oak barrels (1/3 new, 1/3 one wine, 1/3 two wines)
Château Les Hauts-Conseillants shares a natural elegance, silky tannins and the pride of place given to Merlot (85%), but also its vinification and ageing site, which for several vintages has been the winery of Château Bonalgue.
6 ha sandy clay at the surface, with gravelly subsoil (Chevrol plateau in Néac), and 4 ha on a gravelly outcrop that contains 10% clay (in Lalande)
Blueberry and tomato leaf give way to savoury hints of toast and sweet spice. This is fresh and ripe with red fruits to the fore showing red cherry and strawberry. The 35% new oak is in no way intruding and adds to the complex fruit.
